Certificate Course On “Psychological Treatment In Alcohol And Drug Dependence” at TTK Hospital.

Today with growing addiction problems at all levels it is imperative that people who are involved in prevention and treatment initiatives are well informed about basic addiction issues and enhance their skills. This Certificate Course being a new initiative taken was an added Feather in the crown of TTK

A 28 hours training program on “Psychological treatment in alcohol and drug dependence”- to enhance the knowledge in the field of addiction treatment.

TTK hospital organised and conducted this certificate course for 15 participants who were Students of Social work and Psychology, Mental health professionals from various institutions participated in the training.

Certificate Program held on July 6^th 2019 to August 17^th 2019 at TTK hospital Training hall. The training was delivered by senior counsellors. Main goal was to provide the latest information about Substance Use Disorders (SUDs), treatment and facilitating hands on activities to develop skills in SUD counselling. The Participants were given hands- on training and teaching on the following topics.

• Basic facts about drugs and disease concepts.
• Concept and importance of addiction counselling.
• Importance of involving family in the treatment.
• Exposure to AA / Al-Anon
• New trends regarding methodologies available for the treatment of addiction.

Didactic presentations by the trainers, collaborative exercises and Learner-directed activities were used in delivering the content of the training through various approaches like Trainer – led presentations and discussions, Case study / Caselets, Role play, Group feedback , Reflection and Out-loud reading.

In addition to training and sessions held,  Hard-copies of Counselling and group therapy in addiction treatment, Medical management of Substance dependence, Getting out of Alcoholism – My Personal Recovery Tool and  Resource materials containing additional information were given as supporting study materials.
